February 10, 2015: Six subscription television channels are contenders for the title of Channel of the Year in the 2015 ASTRA Awards.
In the running for the coveted title – during the year Australian subscription television celebrates its 20th anniversary – are:
- Discovery Channel
- SKY NEWS National
- HISTORY
- FOX FOOTY
- FOX SPORTS
- The LifeStyle Channel
“This year will see the title contested by six major channels operated by a range of different media companies,” ASTRA CEO Andrew Maiden said.
“Channel of the Year is the most significant award announced at the ASTRA Awards each year, making it appropriate that so many high profile channels are in the running,” he said.
The Channel of the Year Award has been an ASTRA Awards category since 2004, with previous winners being The LifeStyle Channel (three times), FOX SPORTS (twice), Nickelodeon (twice) and SKY NEWS, FOX8, FOX FOOTY and showcase (all once each).
The winner will be announced on the evening of Thursday March 12, at the largest-ever ASTRA Awards, being staged at The Star in Pyrmont.
